The Ministry Center Orientation programs held each fall help new graduates find their way around their new environment and connect with other grads and Ministry Center staff for support and encouragement throughout the year. The mini seminars answer  questions about housing, legal issues and emotional growth during this very critical transition time. Our ‘old timers’ with leadership skills assist in these programs by providing encouragement, leading tours of the city and even leading a couple of the seminars.

The desire to give back is a good indicator of emotional stability and growth as well as an awesome leadership trait. Our volunteer program, while still in its infancy, is well received. The young people in our programs are eager to share their life experiences with those they have left behind at the orphanage – hoping to help others avoid some of the problems they encountered. They are also enjoying the opportunity to share with others in their new communities. It has built self-esteem by giving them a better understanding that they truly do have a great deal to offer and can be a positive influence on others.

In the winter of 2011 we held a trainers seminar for Junior Achievement in three regions. Following the seminar in February, we are hoping that the trainers in each region will begin their own chapters. The graduates with the most leadership potential will be encouraged to join the advanced group that will build their leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking. JA students learn how to start and grow a business, how to successfully contribute in the workplace, and how to effectively manage the money they earn.

Leadership incentive awards will be given quarterly based on participation, volunteerism and positive contributions to their communities. The leadership trips will continue this next year as well. These trips have been life-changing experiences for all that have had the honor of participating.
