It is certainly understood that orphans are a high risk population, and some end up with addictions of different kinds. Even though they may struggle with some issues, we don’t want to give up on them. These programs will give older orphans a second chance.
We have been approached with the idea to begin a program to assist older orphans with special needs. Plans are definately in the infancy stage but the opportunity to reach out to and encourage young people that need a little extra training/education in order to be accepted into a technical school or even live independantantly is becoming a real possibility. Our target group will be orphans that will be leaving their special needs orphanage that do not qualify for any technical school. Most of these young adults will find themselves warehoused in ‘Invalid Homes’ the rest of their lives. It is our desire to select those that we feel that with a little extra time in a residential care environment can develop enough abilities to become able to either proceed into a technical school or into a work place.
Not the ‘rehabilitation’ we had in mind when we added this category to our long-term plan perhaps but very exciting.
